I think that if you asked the majority of our True Nutrition customer base who our company’s products are made for, they’d tell you: bodybuilders… and for good reason, co-owner Dante Trudel.Dante has done more for the bodybuilding and strength training genre than most and he’s done it for over 20 years. Although unorthodox at times, his consistency and simplicity in an industry who tries to complicate everything is uncanny.
Many don’t know of the other guy, Doug Smith, me, the other co-owner of True Nutrition. You’ve seen me answer many of your emails, your requests and have seen my name signed on the bottom of each newsletter, but I’ve remained relatively quiet in what my involvement with True Nutrition is besides being an owner. Unlike many companies in this world, where the main priority is economics and increasing the bottom line, True Nutrition has always been first and foremost, at the core, a place where the owners, Dante and myself, could base our foundation of personal supplement use. I guess it sounds somewhat silly, borderline selfish, to base an entire company for the last 10 years on our personal views and dietary intake. But we feel it keeps us pure, honest and above all, personally vigilant on keeping on top of what is valid and what we feel is bunk in this confusing world of dietary supplements. We may disagree personally with each other occasionally and sometimes with what our customer base is asking us to provide, but we’ll always offer the highest quality raw materials and supplements at the absolute lowest price, hell it’s been our tagline and what we want personally for the last 10 years. And because of this, we feel it’s what we should provide to the rest of the world who’s interested.
So I must be a bodybuilder? Nope… Of course I’ve dabbled years ago out of the sheer curiosity, but that’s just my nature, try everything at least once. But am I a bodybuilder, absolutely not, I do however go to the gym 3-4 times a week, and I do use some of the methods of my business partners training ideals of course, but certainly not a bodybuilder. So why am I writing about this? Recently in the last few years we’ve seen a surge of new customers we’ve never really focused on before, vegan/vegetarians, gastric bipass patients, various endurance athletes, etc., the list goes on and on. Although we’ve always realized the majority of our products would and can transcend to many other people besides bodybuilders, it hasn’t been until recently we decided to focus on the other guys too. And I’m one of the other guys…
To people that know me, would probably say I’m a bit of a adventurer, maybe a bit nutty, though to me I just do what makes me feel complete and keeps my life normal. If it means hanging off of a cliff climbing a mountain in a far off country, running a trail marathon, doing yoga every morning, or jumping a flight chasing a storm to hit that one last day of powder skiing for the season, so be it.
Most of you can tell, True Nutrition, once True Protein, is changing. Not so much changing, but expanding, expanding beyond our focus of just bodybuilding. This expansion helps not only the rest of us but helps our current customer base that has been with us for the last 10 years. Increased products and increased knowledge beyond products just to increase your muscle size or definition is helpful for all, we can all learn from each other.
I’ve been asked to write and talk about what drives my use of True Nutrition products and above all talk about what drives me daily to keep motivated in operating True Nutrition, this is my entrance in doing so. Thank you for reading and learning about the other owner of True Nutrition, I look forward to sharing with our customers what I do, my interests and above all how all of this coincides with my personal dietary supplement intake. Stay tuned for updates on my trip in a week to Kyrgzystan, to ski tour (climbing mountains, then skiing down) untouched mountains for 2 weeks, then my trip to Chile a few weeks later in March, running The Race The Planet 4 Desert 250km Atacama foot race. I’m excited to share with you all how True Nutrition supplements help propel me to enjoying the important activities in my life.
Always in fun and a light heart,
Doug Smith
